Dipping & Packing
Dipping and Packing is the general term used by taxidermists. It refers to the process of preparing parts of the animal in order to export these parts to a different taxidermist, outside of SA.
Zululand Taxidermy is a Veterinarian approved facility and is authorized to perform the Dipping and Packing procedure. This process is compulsory in order to obtain an export permit.
The process stipulates that skins are washed, excess meat and fat shaved off, salted and dried and thereafter packed for storage. Skulls are cleaned from all fat and meat residue and are then treated with chemicals to deminish bacteria. If the process is complete and the cleansing is satisfactory, the skulls will be wrapped up and prepared for shipment.
This process is absolutely necessary for containment of any tranferable diseases such as foot and mouth disease, swine fever and tuberculosis . It is an compulsory treatment to obtain veterinary export permits.
International Shipping
Taxidermy cargo is usually transported by air freight or ocean freight. We would suggest you considering the best option for your own convenience as prices differ considerably between the two.
By taking the option of ocean transport, you extend your waiting period but it is more economical than air freight. Air freight might be a little more cosly, but the trophies will reach your doorstep sooner.
Zululand Taxidermy uses a very reliable shipping company, African Trophy Exports (ATE), which we highly recommend. However, if you prefer using your own freight company, we ask that you inform us with your first correspondence with us and supply us with all the relevent information.
